Breast Cancer Strikes Again

When illness happens to people, it can be sad. Some people can't afford to be sick. When people who are kind to those around them, who have open minds, and who spend part of their time trying to progress the human condition get sick, and do not have health insurance it is sad.

Robin Roberts, a television personality who does little to offend, has been diagnosed with breast cancer. I think I remember her as a pioneer woman broadcaster in the sports industry.

I have known many women with breast cancer and it is a horrible disease.

I pray that Robin Roberts can afford the health care she needs.

The neo-conservatives running America, from George Bush to Hillary Clinton, from John Roberts to Barack Obama, do not want humans to have access to health care unless it benefits one of the lobbyists who own them. Many women are uninsured in America, and we can thank neo-conservatives like the recently stricken Supreme Court Justice.

Every woman should be insured. Every child should be insured. Every person should be insured. Health care should not be a privilege. But, the neo-cons want it that way and working Americans seem blind to the FACT that neo-cons are the enemy of all humanity, including themselves (see, Senator Ted Stevens recent excitement. He is his own enemy, as all neo-cons are.) So, working people in America keep voting for them and medicine falls by the way side. Science becomes a dirty word. Intelligence is replaced with prayer. Our nation crumbles, and our citizens are sick and uninsured. Still, stupid people vote for neo-cons who woo them with homophobia, racism, sexism, xenophobia, and fear.

But for the conservatives I say let's give a big "Hooray" for Ted Stevens! Maybe he can go to prison as one of the people, one of the many neo-cons, who has destroyed American integrity and re-engineered the free market to be closed to only a few. Nail 'em all! Every neo-con and Republican from coast-to-coast! They are all liars and frauds! Get 'em all! Then we can go after the neo-con Democrats: start with Hillary and Obama.

Until we do get all the neo-cons, let's pray for those who suffer at their hands, especially those who cannot afford health care.

Robin Roberts is lucky to be rich and powerful. Let's hope she spends part of her recovery time, as many privileged survivors do, working for the benefit of women who cannot afford health care and treatment.

Robin Roberts, of 'Good Morning America,' to undergo surgery for breast cancer

NEW YORK (AP) - ABC "Good Morning America" anchor Robin Roberts has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will be undergoing surgery Friday.

Roberts, 46, told viewers about her cancer on Tuesday morning's show.

"I am so blessed that I found this in the early stages and the prognosis is so promising that my doctor expects me to be flying planes and hanging on to submarines in the middle of the Atlantic and scaling the Mayan pyramids in no time," she said.

Roberts, who is co-anchor of "Good Morning America" with Diane Sawyer, said she examined herself and found a lump on her breast the same day she had done a report on former "GMA" movie critic Joel Siegel, who died of colon cancer last month. The network wouldn't say which breast was affected.

Roberts, who is single, said there is no history in her family of breast cancer.

She's been a contributor to ABC's morning program since 1995 and was the newsreader before being named in May 2005 as one of the show's anchors.

Former ABC news anchor Peter Jennings announced on "World News Tonight" in April 2005 that he had lung cancer. He never appeared on the air again and died four months later.
