It Gets Better - DCU

A year or so ago, on September 21, 2010, writer Dan Savage and his partner, Terry Miller, recorded the first "It Gets Better" video and uploaded it to youtube.com. Columnist/blogger Perez Hilton then recorded one, and the floodgates opened.

People from all walks of life, from LGBT youth and their straight friends, to professional athletes, elected officials, and movie stars, have since recorded and posted "It Gets Better" videos.

Major League Soccer team D.C. United just released an "It Gets Better" video starring Josh Woolf and Clyde Simms:

D.C. United is celebrating the one year anniversary of "It Gets Better" during their match against Chivas USA, with "United Night Out" on Wednesday, September 21, 2011. Tickets cost $25 and are available at: United Night Out.

As a supporter of Red Bull New York, a team that does more than expected for the community, I wish my team had been the first MLS team to do the "It Gets Better" video. It's never too late, though, and I hope that RBNY finds the time to get this done soon. Perhaps it can be catalyst to get the team back on track.

It's also time for more professional athletes to come forward and add their voices to the hue and cry.

See the It Gets Better Project at youtube.com.
