Another Republican Pledge of Other Allegiance

To be a Republican candidate for public office in Laurens County, South Carolina, you have to be the "right kind" of Republican.

To be considered for Republican nomination, a candidate must:

. . . promise they did not have premarital sex, will be faithful to their spouses and will not watch porn while also fighting to protect gun rights.

• Oppose abortion, in any circumstances

• Endorse the ideas of balanced state and federal budgets

• Hold a high regard for U.S. sovereignty and be committed to peace through "strength in foreign policy"

• Not favor any government action to allow civil unions by same-sex couples . . .

Since the pledge came under scrutiny, even by the South Carolina Republican Party, Laurens County Republicans have backed-off a bit, insisting that no candidate is required to sign the pledge.

What is at issue here is not whether or not a candidate is required to sign a pledge (which seems to be treasonous, in my not so humble opinion), but the fact that the pledge and its promotion exist at all.

I thought the only pledge one must take to be a candidate for public office in the United States is the Pledge of Allegiance; and I am not even certain that is legally required. I do know that the Constitution does not place any requirement to sign a purity pledge, and it does prohibit a religious test.

The Constitution states:

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.

Now, this Republican purity pledge is not specifically "religious" in content; but is deeply rooted in new-fangled ideas the right-wing promulgates about religion. I think this does amount to a religious test, and should be specifically outlawed.

The rise in right-wing prerequisites of candidates signing pledges to a private political organization is frightening, and I think unconstitutional. Any group presenting such a pledge and any candidate that signs such a pledge should be tried for treason.

Cheering Death

When President Obama put forward a somewhat sensible health care policy, the Tea Party spent tens of millions of dollars whipping-up fear and hatred among their following.

Although the Tea Party has no alternative suggestions about how to fix America's disastrous health care system, they are opposed to anything President Obama puts forward, even if it will help them.

Now that the election season has started for the Republicans, the candidates have been "debating" on television.

One of these "debates" was sponsored by the Tea Party.

Health care was a topic.

A scenario was put forward about a man who died of a curable illness. He died because he had no health insurance.

The Tea Party cheered. They cheered the paradigm that if you cannot afford health insurance, then you should die of your illness.

None of the candidates spoke-up. None of them suggested that perhaps we shouldn't let the uninsured die, and die miserable deaths, because they have lost their health insurance.

Susan Grigsby has recorded a video about the story of her brother, a man who worked all of his life, until he was discarded by his company at age 55, never found another job, and died without receiving available treatment for his illness. At 55 he wasn't ever going to find another job, he had no insurance, and he was ineligible for current federal programs.

So, he died.

And the Tea Party cheers his death.

What's the easiest way to turn $300,000 into $4.75 million?

Well, donate that three hundred thousand to the political campaigns of Texas Republican, and presidential hopeful, Gov. Rick Perry.

James Leininger, John McHale and David Shanahan are all large-money donors to Gov. Perry's "Texans for Rick Perry" campaign group. All three men are connected to G-Con, a pharmaceutical start-up, based in Bryan, Texas, and associated with Texas A&M University, Gov. Perry's alma mater. Collectively, the men have donated about three-hundred thousand dollars to Gov. Perry

G-Con received a three million dollar state grant in May, 2010, and Gradalis Holdings (a 10% owner of G-Con) received a $1,75 million grant in February, 2009. Both grant awards include Gov. Perry's approval.

Republicans are always going on and on and on and on about the cost of government, but have absolutely no intention of letting that teat dry-up for them and their friends anytime soon. The cost of supporting Republican millionaires cots the taxpayer dramatically more than it costs to support the poor.

Sure, let's cut; but let's cut from the people at the top of the food chain. Then, when we are sure we aren't supporting millionaires, we can get around to cutting benefits for the poor, sick and elderly!

Rick Perry will make a perfect Republican president!

Instead of discussing real issues facing America, like:

• how are we going to restore an actual tax base?
  
  
• how are we ever going to be able to afford repairs to roads and bridges?
  
  
• when are we going to stop propping-up puppet governments with tax dollars instead of corporate profits?
  
  
• when are we going to stop our wars against Islam and start negotiating in good faith with the vast majority of Muslims who oppose war and killing as much as Christians do?
  
  
• when are we going to start properly funding education?
  
  
• when are we going to move the discussion of health care out of the arena of abortion and into the arena of health?

instead of discussing any of these issues, Republicans keep the spotlight on bestiality and stories about the correlation among a free-market economy, Biblical writings, and sexual preference.

At Ralph Reed's Faith and Freedom Coalition conference in Washington, D.C., the usual suspects gathered to misinterpret the Bible, the Constitution, and all sense of common decency: Michele Bachmann, Haley Barbour, Mitt Romney, Tony Perkins, Paul Ryan, John Boehner, Jon Huntsman, Donald Trump, Glenn Beck, Tim Pawlenty, Ron Paul, Rick Santorum, Herman Cain, and others participated in discussions that included the fantastic notion that homosexuality undermines the American economy.

The Republicans really believe this; or they are such psychopathic liars that they will say anything to get attention, votes, and money.

In this analysis, the implementation of supply-side economic policy is not responsible for our deficient economy, nor are anti-consumer finance laws, crooked mortgage lenders, Wall Street CEOs, tax evaders, or tax irresponsible cuts responsible for our dire financial standing. It's the cocksuckers, the fags, the queers and dykes.

If Barney Frank would eat pussy instead of cock, if Ellen DeGeneres would suck cock instead of pussy, then the American economy would be in a much better place. We could afford huge tax cuts for the rich AND maintain our government, we could off-shore all our jobs AND still have 1% unemployment, we could sell immoral adjustable-rate mortgages to the poor AND make home-ownership an integral part of the American Dream . . . if only the queers would stop being queers.

I know my Republican friends and family are offended when I make this statement, but here I go again: If you vote Republican, then these are your ideals - you believe that homosexuality undermines our economy. You believe that your gay brother/sister/cousin/aunt/uncle/etc. is the reason why you can't seem to get ahead of the curve.

If you vote Republican you are the problem.

Of course, you will say that this is a generalization. I would argue that it's a rather accurate generalization, like saying all the white people are Caucasian.

If you vote Republican you are the problem.

Of course you will say that the GOP has a very sane and responsible fiscal plan for America, but you would be wrong. The GOP plan has been in implementation for over 30 years and every year our economy and fiscal standing deteriorate further.
